Damn it. I watched Kingsmen: The Golden Circle on a flight last week and I have this song stuck in my head. I grew up during the height of John Denver’s popularity, was never a huge fan, but his music is buried deep enough into my lizard brain that I can’t get it out.

Same here. John Denver was one of the few mix tapes we had in the car for road trips. Still know a lot of his catalog by heart.

My favorite part is the fact that WVU uses this song like it’s about them, when really it’s about the country roads of West Virginia taking him home to Virginia.
Just like University of Alabama using Dixieland Delight when the 5th-ish and 6th-ish Road tell you it’s a “Tennessee Bighway”. It also reinforces the fact the person writing the song is in Tennessee, not Alabama, later as well.

Not a big Denver fan, but it is a great song. Here’s a really good cover by Toots and the Maytals.

I don’t doubt it. Saw him in concert when I was like 7.
